DESCRIPTION OF THE GENERAL COURSE
This course is directed to you who do not suffer from the illness of addiction yourself, but who want to learn more about it. The illness of addiction is something that affects most people in society. It is so widely spread and most people know someone who suffers from addiction. Whether it’s a family member, a friend, a colleague or an employee, most people experience the challenge of knowing how to handle someone who is sick from addiction. It’s an illness that is uncomfortable to confront and is connected with collective shame and stigma. Relatives and close friends of someone who is sick are often exposed to so much sorrow and stress that their own life is significantly affected.
The course will give you a good basic knowledge about the illness of addiction, plausible reasons as to why some people get stuck in addiction, how addiction affects all areas of life and what needs to happen for recovery to take place. Besides lectures about addiction, it contains a sequence addressing the subject of codependency as well as my own life story.
This course is also not tied to any specific treatment method. I have chosen to explain everything according to the theories and explanatory models which I find make most sense, and that are easy to understand. I share experiences from my own journey, knowledge which I have gained from all the clients that I have had the privilege to have in treatment and knowledge from various studies that I find to be relevant and interesting.
